L-Lysine

N.a.v. een bericht op www.thebaldtruth.com ben ik sinds 2 maanden L-Lysine gaan gebruiken omdat dit de werking van o.a. propecia zou versterken. Na twee maanden ben ik niet ontevreden. Voor mijn gevoel is haaruitval wederom verminderd. Het middel werkt overgens ook uitstekend tegen een koortslip (herpes-virus). In mijn geval dubbel succes.
L-Lysine kun je gewoon kopen bij de betere drogist. Ik slik 2x 1000 mg per dag. Graag wil ik op deze site een discussie hierover op gang zetten. Zijn er meedere gebruikers van L-Lysine en succesvol of juist niet?

L-Lysine
Lysine is an essential amino acid needed for growth and to help maintain nitrogen balance in the body. Essential amino acids cannot be made in the body and must be supplied by the diet or supplements. Lysine appears to help the body absorb and conserve calcium. Linus Pauling believed that lysine helps maintain healthy blood vessels, an idea based on biochemistry and results from three people with angina pectoris who responded to lysine supplementation Lysine has many functions in the body because it is incorporated into many proteins, each of which is used by the body for a variety of purposes. Lysine interferes with replication of herpes viruses and is therefore often prescribed by nutritionally oriented doctors to people with cold sores or genital herpes. A review of the research trials investigating the effects of lysine on people with cold sores shows that most though not all trials support the use of lysine.

Lysine supplementation increases the absorption of calcium and may reduce its excretion. As a result, some researchers believe that lysine may eventually be shown to have a role in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Lysine works with other essential amino acids to maintain growth, lean body mass, and the body’s store of nitrogen.



Recently there has been a lot of buzz about L-Lysine's beneficial effect on androgenetic alopecia. It seems that taking L-Lysine helps to increase the efficacy of drugs like Propecia and Rogaine. Spencer Kobren has recently added this amino acid to his regimen and believes there is true benefit in the use of L-Lysine as an adjunct nutritional supplement in the fight against hair loss.

L-LYSINE AND THE TREATMENT OF HAIR LOSS

An English biotech company was recently issued a US patent for the use of L-Lysine in the treatment of various types of hair loss, including androgenic alopecia. Following are excerpts from the patent itself.
"Studies involving the administration according to the present invention of L-lysine to those suffering from increased hair shedding show a remarkable increase in scalp hair growth."
"Typically, the L-lysine is administered in a daily dose of from 200 to 2000 mg, and more usually in a daily dose of 500 to 1500 mg, e.g. in the form of a 500 mg dose administered orally once, twice or three times a day. L-lysine may conveniently be administered orally, for example as tablets, capsules."
"We have also discovered that administration of lysine to patients results in a dramatic increase in the efficacy of known treatments for genetic hair loss (which term covers a number of conditions variously referred to as androgen-dependent alopecia, androgenic alopecia, androgenetic alopecia, common baldness, female baldness, diffuse hair loss and male pattern baldness)."
"Thus, in a further aspect of the present invention there is provided a kit including a plurality of separate containers, each containing at least one active agent useful in a combination therapy for the treatment of genetic hair loss, wherein said kit includes L-lysine and at least one further active agent selected from minoxidil, anti-androgens, 5.alpha.-reductase inhibitors, aromatase inhibitors."
"The co-administration of L-lysine with known treatments for genetic hair loss such as minoxidil and anti-androgens results in a significant improvement in the efficacy of the treatment."
