"Trigger" For Alopecia Areata Has Been Identified By Researchers In Israel

Technion-Israel Institute of Technology has found a key factor that cause alopecia areata. The findings were published in December's issue of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that affects close to 2 percent of the population. Up to this date, very little is known about alopecia areata. Most scientists suggest that this condition is triggered when the affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by the patient's own immune system or white blood cells. Alopecia areata is usually charaterized by one or more small, round, smooth bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis), according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.

While it has been widely suggested that white blood cells (our immune system) attack hair follicles in alopecia areata patients, it is never clear why or how the attack is triggered. Now researchers have identified that a certain protein generated by hair pigment-producing cells is the culprit.

Specifically, the attack on hair follicles is triggered when our body mistakens the protein as foreign substances and activates our immune system / white blood cells to attack the substances.

This finding is significant because now that the "trigger" has been identified, researchers can focus on a cure for the disease. It has been suggested that treatments may involve desensitizing the body's immune system to the protein that triggers the attack.

The study was led by Dr. Amos Gilhar, associate professor at the Technion Faculty of Medicine. It was conducted at the Flieman Geriatric Rehabiliation Hospital in Haifa, Israel.

Alopecia areata and Affected Skin CRH Receptor Upregulation Induced by Acute Emotional Stress

Acute emotional stress may trigger alopecia areata by activation of over-expressed type 2[b corticotrophin-releasing hormone receptors around the hair follicles. This in turn leads to intense local inflammation and loss of the hair. This is the conclusion of Dr Alexandra Katsarou-Katsari at the A Syggros Hospital for Dermatologic Diseases, University of Athens School of Medicine, Athens, Greece and colleagues in the USA. They investigated the expression of corticotrophin releasing hormone receptors on the affected skin of three patients (and one normal volunteer). The patients had developed alopecia areata following acute emotional stress. Said Dr Katsarou-Katsari, " Skin from the affected sites of all three patients studied showed intense expression only on the type 2b receptor around the hair follicles". In contrast the skin from the normal person showed only weak background expression of all three receptor types (type 1, type 2 a, and type 2b).

Heel erg bedankt voor dat bericht.
Weet u misschien meer over de behandelingen van alopecia?
Ik heb al veel gehad,maar als u ze op een rijtje zou willen zetten als het niet teveel moeite is.
Misschien weet u ook meer of in het buitenland andere methodes worden gebruikt.

Heel graag zou ik je willen helpen met wat info, maar ik weet zelf eigenlijk heel weinig over Alopecia Areata . Ik weet alleen dat het een auto immuun verstorings ziekte is. Je lichaam valt accuut je haarcellen aan.Ziet ze als een vijandig opject.En dit kan bijv. getriggerd worden door een zware emotionele ervaring ( stress ofzo ) .

Mocht ik wat tegen komen , dan plaats ik het met plezier hier.


Maar wat ik wel weet, is dat ze al vrij bevorderd zijn , op het gebied van Alopecia Areata , als het om de oorzaken en de genezings mogelijkheden gaat.

Ik wist die oorzaak van u al,maar niet dat er vorderingen zijn bij de genezings wijze ik hoop het echt,dan zou ik me het tegenovergestelde voelen als ik nu doe.

Wel interessant,ik heb wel meer gehoord over uien sap en vraag me af of dit misschien wat kan zijn om te proberen.

Ik zie in ieder geval LICHT!!!

Nu ze de oorzaak te pakken hebben zal het niet lang meer duren!

Dat van dat uiensap, dat heb ik ook eens gelezen in een boek van mijn ouders, geschreven door Dr. Vogel. Dat was zo'n boek over oplossingen voor allerlei pijntjes en klachten. Bij haaruitval stond toen dat uien een oplossing zijn. Ik heb daar verder geen aandacht aan besteed, omdat het niet echt voor de hand lijkt te liggen dat zo'n simpel middel kan helpen en dat hier verder niet over wordt geschreven.

Ik heb net ff in dat boek van Dr. Vogel gekeken. De reden dat uiensap goed is in de strijd tegen AA komt vanwege de natuurlijke zwavel die uien bevat.

Hee Hoi,

Ik heb een super oud kruidenboek die nog van mijn oma is geweest en raad eens wat daar in stond:)

Tegen haaruitval:

Brandnetelblad 1 gram
Ui 1 gram
70% alcohol 100 gram

opgieten enkele dagen laten staan, en in de hoofdhuid masseren.


Vond dit wel grappig en het viel me op dat weer die ui erin voorkwam betwijfel echter of het helpt (gnuif) Als het helpt vraag ik patent aan.:P

Wel grappig dat het steeds terugkomt.Zo heb ik er nog een paar gelezen,
Je haar wassen met sterk gezette kamille thee.

Twee keer in de week keukenzout op je hoofd smeren.


Dit zullen vast wel geen wondermiddeltjes zijn, maar ja wie weet ?:)
