Melatonin also has antioxidant properties, which may explain why there is some evidence it could help regrow, or perhaps just slow, hair loss when used topically on the scalp.

Hair Growth

There are three phases of hair growth. The growth stage is called the anagen phase, and it can last from two to five years. A transitional phase, called the catagen phase, lasts for a few days. Hair is shed in the telogen phase, and then the cycle starts all over again when your hair follicles sprout new hairs. If the follicles don't spout new hairs, thinning and baldness follow. Some theorize that melatonin, with its antioxidant properties, can fight free radicals and heal damage to hair follicles.

Research

The study cited most frequently in support of melatonin as a hair growth supplement was conducted in 2004 at Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany. The research subjects who rubbed melatonin into their scalps during the trial period increased the rate of hair growth during the anagen phase when compared to a group who used placebos. In their finding, the researchers stated "This pilot study is the first to show that topically applied melatonin might influence hair growth."

Phase three was a more reliable and objective open-label, clinically controlled study involving 35 men with androgenetic alopecia. In this study, researchers used TrichoScan, a sensitive software and hardware package that uses epiluminescence to measure hair loss. Hair density was found to increase in over half of the subjects. The average increase in density was 29% after three months and 41% at six months.

New hair growth was measured in 22.5% of patients. Further, the proportion of patients with moderate to severe presentation of the skin condition seborrhea dropped by over 30%.

Interessant.. melatonine spray lucovitaal is maar 8.50 euro. Maar moeilijk te verkrijgen. Melatonine spray/topical is in het algemeen moeilijk te verkrijgen.

I agree with Bryan---I don't want premade stuff where I have no idea how much melatonin is REALLY in it.

Also, I prefer and alcohol or water based mix rather than a cream mix.

So, Bryan or someone else, is melatonin soluble in water, alcohol, or both?

Fischer et al (2004) also conducted a study on 40 women with diffuse alopecia or AGA. A 1% melatonin-alcohol solution was applied once daily on the scalp over 6 months. Vodka oraal doe ik vaak in de weekend ;) Tot op heden last van bijwerkingen zoals : Brain fog, erectie problemen, slapeloosheid, snel aggresief worden, en despressie. :p Vooral brainfog. Ik herriner mij niks meer ..

Een goede vloeistof is simpel Ethanol lees ik via hairlosstalk.

Some of you were interested in the recent topical melatonin for hairloss study in the British Journal of Dermatology, and I promised I'd report on the details when I got the full paper. Here's a whole paragraph from the "Materials and Methods" section near the beginning:

"The participants applied a 0.1% melatonin-alcohol solution (melatonin, high-purified; Helsinn Chemicals, Biasca, Switzerland) or alcohol solution alone topically once daily in the evening for 6 months. The daily amount to be applied was 1 mL given in eight spray hits (8 X 0.128 mL = 1.024 mL)."

Pretty simple dosing: 1 mL/day of a simple 0.1% melatonin solution in ethanol.

Volgens hair loss talk hebben de duitsrs dit in 2012 geprobeerd, sommige zegen dat hun vehicle shit was.

Sommige denken ook dat de foto's van de studies fake zijn omdat ze nat en droog door elkaar mengen.

Ja heel erg verwarrend dit. Enige manier is het maar op zelf te proberen. Ik heb middels 2 pakjes gekocht bij de Etos. Gemixt met water. Kijken na 1-2 maanden wat er gebeurd... Overigens vertelde iemand op HLT dat Voltaren 2% gel ook werkt...
