Die kinderen krijgen spironolactone vanwege ernstige ziektes, niet vanwege haaruitval.

Verhalen over spiro gaan zoeken....Poeh, heralopecia.com staat er tjokvol mee. Nou, hier heb je er een paar:

Ash, 25, AGA: "i am on spiro from past 8 months..it seemed to work a bit for the first 5 months..my hair looked thick and the shedding reduced to half..
but from august i have lost the benefits of spiro...shed doubled since then..hair looks very thin kind of fly away..
spiro makes me pee a lot..i have to even wake up at nite..i feel very tired, exhausted on spiro...backpain,bodyache etc..
my periods were disturbed by spiro..i was getting them every 3 weeks and they stayed for 10 to 15 days at a strech..
but i have started yasmin from this sunday and hope to stabilise my periods.."

Laura:"I've been using minoxidil 5% on and off, MSM on and off, iron on and off (for anemia) and the only thing I've kept steady is Yasmin bcp. I take Yasmin because I could not stomach spironolactone, and Yasmin is composed of drospirenone, which is smiliar/derived from spiro."

Aussie: "Haven't been on the website in a very long time. Was taking 200mg spironolactone since April 06 to Nov 06 and noticed a definate improvement in reduction of hair loss and regrowth. I started to feel nauseous in early Nov 06 and my GP did some blood tests to rule out anything nasty. Got a phone call from him that evening and was told to stop spiro straight away - my liver ALT was over 2300 (should be around 40). My levels remained high for the next 7 days (actually increased and reached 3300!!!), I got quite ill and ended up in hospital in an isolation ward. I was told I had probably contacted Hepatitis A whilst travelling in outback Australia in Sept/Oct (HepA is common in indigenous Aboriginal population) but all tests proved negative (they tested me for all the Hepatitis strains and a heap of other things that I've never even heard of). My levels slowly started returning to normal and I was discharged from hospital with the diagnosis of non specific hepatitis. I was off work for nearly 4 months and took some time to feel normal again. The specialist I saw in hospital and afterwards did not think spironolactone was the cause and put it down to a non specific virus probably contracted during our outback desert trip. My dermatologist however was fairly certain the spironolactone was the cause. My hair is still falling out but as you can imagine I am rather reluctant to take any other medication. I am giving myself a full twelve months to let my body get back to normal and then I am going to try minoxidil or learn to live with my hair loss.
My main reason for posting again is that I would encourage ALL of you taking spironolactone or any other medication to ensure that you have regular blood tests checking all aspects particularly liver enzymes. I was very ill and was at risk of liver failure (very scary and a life changing experience!).
