================================================== ====
6-BAP Summary THANKS Bug for taking the time to post the summary for 6-BAP Disclaimer: we are not recommending this regimen for everyone, this is just an EXPERIMENT by some of the posters here, be sure to check with your doctor before you try anything discussed here. The following is a very concise summary by Bug which should be sufficient for most newbies, you can click this link to read a more detail discussion http://www.hairsite4.com/dc/dcboard....7520&mode=full <Bug's Summary> Everything can be summed up in three words: Bone Morphogenetic Proteins ( BMP-2, BMP-7 etc) For a slightly longer yet hopefully concise summary: BMPs GROW HAIR Says Who ? --- Elaine Fuchs --- http://www.hhmi.org/news/fuchs2.html --- OsteoScreen/Dr Mundy --- http://news.mysanantonio.com/story.c...10&xlc=1013894 --- Lion Corp/Tokushima University --- http://www.asahi.com/english/busines...061800557.html So how do we stimulate BMPs? --- Proteasome inhibitors(PSI, MG-132, etc) --- 6-benzylaminopurine(6-BA) --- Statins (Osteopure(red yeast rice strain)) note: much weaker than PSI Are there patents that use these substances to stimulate BMPs and grow hair? --- 6-Benzylaminopurine --- --- http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...S=PN/5,656,264 --- Proteasome inhibitors --- --- http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...BST/proteasome --- http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...RS=osteoscreen Where can I buy this stuff? --- 6-ba --- http://www.phytotechlab.com/getItem.html?grpId=B800 --- Proteasome inhibitors --- http://www.pepnet.com/proteasome.html --- Osteopure --- http://www.osteopure.com What is 6-ba soluable in? --- 40mg/ml 2 M NaOH, 1mg/ml water, 5mg/ml ethanol, DMSO --- http://www.novagen.com/docs/PDS/200241-000.pdf What concentration should I make? --- The part of the 6-BA patent that uses human trialists uses a 0.5% solution. Which is also the maximum solution you can make in pure ethanol. Why all the excitement now? --- Three completely independent groups(and probably more) all implicating BMPs in hair growth within the last few months. The 6-BA patent is old. Why is it newsworthy only now? --- The patent didnt implicate BMPs. Lion Corp/Tokushima University only recently discovered 6-ba stimulated BMPs 'MartinB' is a trialist for the OsteoScreen OSH101 product which is cool! |

Also, THANKS to Bug again, we have the full press release for 6-bap Im not sure if this has been posted before. I think maybe the Japanese language version was posted. The link also includes some simple diagrams. I found this line interesting: "Although 6-benzyl aminopurine has been approved for use in humans, the exact mechanism behind its efficacy remains unclear." Approved for use in humans ?? I guess that along with the use of 480 volunteers in the patent, should help alleviate some fear of trying it. http://www.lion.co.jp/en/press/html/2003024f.htm Press Release June 16, 2003 Lion Corporation President: Michinao Takahashi (Code 4912) Lion First in Successful Genetic Analysis of Male Pattern Baldness Hair growth is an ongoing theme of research conducted in the field of hair science at Lion Corporation's Biological Science Research Center. In joint research with the Tokushima University School of Medicine's Department of Dermatology, Lion is proud to announce that it has made a milestone discovery in the development of a new approach to combating hair loss. By employing a technique for in-depth gene expression analysis, the Lion research team discovered anomalies in the expression of genes found in the skin of patients suffering from androgenic alopecia (hair loss commonly referred to as male pattern baldness) when compared to the skin of non-alopecia subjects. Lion's team is the first ever to make this remarkable discovery. The Company plans to announce its findings at the 26th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Biomedical Gerontology scheduled from June 18 to June 20, 2003. 1. Factors Behind the Research In 2002, it was estimated that between 5 to 10 million people in Japan suffer from androgenic alopecia. Yet despite the vast number of people who have the disorder, the exact mechanism behind it remained a mystery. Several operative mechanisms (including energy metabolism improvement, nutritional supplements, blood flow promoters, etc.) became the focal point of efforts to develop a variety of hair-nourishment treatments to alleviate the symptoms of androgenic alopecia. Lion had already begun to turn its attention towards energy metabolism improvement, and identified glyceryl pentadecanoate (or PDG) as a relatively effective treatment for the disorder. The process of hair growth is generally thought of as a repetitive cycle of inactivity, growth, and loss (see diagram 1) controlled by dermal papilla cells (DPCs) found at the root of a strand of hair. Since male pattern baldness is normally attributed to genetic factors, reason had it that genetic changes would also be evident in the DPCs regulating the hair growth cycle. Until that point, however, little detailed research had been conducted into the gene expression patterns associated with androgenic alopecia. It was against this backdrop that Lion set out to discern through intensive analysis the specific differences in genetic expression between dermal tissue affected by alopecia and non-alopecia skin to gain a clearer understanding of the exact nature of this disorder. The result was that Lion become the first in the world to discover the major role played by both an increase in hair depilation signals, long identified as an important mechanism in the onset of pattern baldness, and a decline in hair growth promoting signals, vital to the growth stage of the hair growth cycle, in the onset of androgenic alopecia. By spotlighting the importance of enhancing the function of hair growth promoting signals in the prevention of hair loss, this discovery has effectively ushered in a new theoretical approach in the development of novel hair-nourishment treatments. 2. Explanation of the new hair growth mechanism 1)First in the world to conduct successful genetic expression analysis of androgenic alopecia Lion cultivated dermal papilla cells from skin affected by alopecia and non-alopecia skin. Techniques for genetic expression analysis (DNA array analysis) were then applied to messenger RNA (mRNA) extracted from these cells, after which it was verified that a difference of around 10% in terms of gene expression existed between the two cell types. One of the differences recognized was alterations in the expression of proteins necessary for the basic cycle of cell division and growth, suggesting that DPC activity is somehow being suppressed during the onset of pattern baldness. Researchers also noticed a lower incidence of expression for other genes associated with the promotion of cell growth. 2)The discovery of hair growth promoting signals (BMP, ephrin) The previous analysis showed a particularly dramatic decline in the genetic expression of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and ephrin, a gene that stimulates the growth of new blood vessels (see diagram 2). Once the precise effects of BMP and ephrin on hair follicles were identified, recognition of the essential role of each in promoting the growth of hair cells soon followed (see graph 1). Through this process, BMP and ephrin were recognized as important hair growth promoting signals in addressing androgenic alopecia. 3. Novel approach to the development of innovative hair-nourishment treatments The aforementioned research and analyses suggested that lower levels of BMP and ephrin expression, common in androgenic alopecia, interrupt normal hair growth. These findings led to the hypothesis that reversing this decline in expression might allow the hair growth cycle to return to normal, which would naturally promote hair growth. Returning a state of hair loss to one of normal hair growth would thus involve 1) increasing the presence of hair growth promoting signals found in DPCs by a wide margin, and 2) blocking hair depilation signals. The search for substances that can simultaneously perform both functions yielded two promising candidates: a compound from the amine-class of nucleic acids that stimulates growth in plants, and 6-benzyl aminopurine*, a substance already noted for its beneficial effect on hair growth. *Although 6-benzyl aminopurine has been approved for use in humans, the exact mechanism behind its efficacy remains unclear. >>> |

1) Recognizing the ability of 6-benzyl aminopurine to rapidly increase hair growth promoting signals
DNA array analysis has revealed over 51 recognizable genetic changes that occur in experiments in which 6-benzyl aminopurine is added to cell cultures with intact DPCs. Of these changes, an increase in the level of expression of BMP and ephrin has been determined as the crucial factor in achieving hair growth (see diagram 3). In other words, 6-benzyl aminopurine was seen to encourage activity during the growth stage of the hair growth cycle, and to effectively boost the level of hair growth promoting signals present during the growth cycle. 2) The ability of 6-benzyl aminopurine to suppress hair depilation signals When 6-benzyl aminopurine is introduced into human hair follicle keratinocyte cultures engineered to simulate conditions during hair loss, the chemical effectively suppresses hair depilation signals (see graph 2). This evidence suggests that 6-benzyl aminopurine discourages the loss of hair follicles, helping to return the stunted hair growth cycle to its rightful state. This research makes it clear that the development of new treatments for hair loss must include two elements. The first was already known: using the hair depilation signal to take the hair growth cycle beyond the hair loss stage. The second element, which has been identified for the first time through Lion's groundbreaking research, is the need to prevent a decline in the level of growth promoting signals, which are needed to advance to the growth stage, thus ensuring that the hair growth cycle functions smoothly. Moreover, the dual effect evidenced by 6-benzyl aminopurine as a mechanism for raising the level of hair growth promoting signals in the hair growth cycle and suppressing hair depilation signals, suggests a possible new approach to the discovery of novel treatments for combating hair loss (see diagram 4). Looking ahead, Lion intends to continue its cutting edge research in this field, with the aim of applying the new technologies in the development of innovative hair-nourishment treatments. bug INNOVATE INSTRUCTIONS FROM CRAIG ==================================== Just recieved this translation from kurogrow. Sales of Lion's Revolutionary Hair-Nourishing Treatment Mouhatsuryoku Innovate Tops 250,000 in Just One Month after Launch
The new product encourages hair growth promoting mechanisms discovered through DNA analysis On October 1, 2003, Lion Corporation (President: Michinao Takahashi) launched in stores nationwide the revolutionary hair-nourishing treatment, Mouhatsuryoku Innovate. In the one month since this new product became available on the shelves, the number of bottles sold reached 250,000, and sales continue to remain brisk. In a single month, the product has recorded a monthly share in the market for hair nourishing products of 10.4 percent, which means that it has already topped its original targeted share of 10 percent within the year. Even before it went on the market, Mouhatsuryoku Innovate was already the topic of wide discussion. Lion was first in the world to discover on the basis of research into hair growth at the gene level a relationship between androgenic alopecia syndrome (also known as male pattern baldness) and a decline of hair growth promoting signals. Mouhatsuryoku Innovate was formulated expressly to combat this decline, combining two ingredients, glyceryl pentadecanoate, which was already being utilized in other hair nourishing products, with cytopurine, an active growth enhancer. The new product has reinvigorated the somewhat sluggish market in hair nourishing treatments, which is now expected to embark on a new period of expansion. (A Lion Corporation survey estimates the total sales in the market in hair growth products for 2002 as 31.5 billion yen.) 1. Sales during the single month since the launch of Mouhatsuryoku Innovate During the single month that has elapsed since Mouhatsuryoku Innovate became available in stores on October 1, 2003, it sold 250,000 bottles. Further, during the month after it was launched Mouhatsuryoku Innovate recorded a monthly share in the market of 10.4 percent, which means that it has reached the target of achieving 10 percent market share before the end of the year in the space of just one month. Lion continues to receive numerous inquiries from customers about the new product, even now that it is available in stores, and sales are expected to continue to rise steadily. 2. Reasons for the brisk sales of Mouhatsuryoku Innovate (1) The "hot topic" of gene research Discovery of new mechanisms behind the onset of androgenic alopecia, through research at the DNA level into hair growth It has been estimated that the number of people who suffer from androgenic alopecia in Japan is as high as 10 million. An effective treatment for the problem has long been eagerly awaited. It was in this context that Lion started to conduct research into hair growth at the DNA level, and discovered a link between androgenic alopecia and a decline in hair growth promoting signals (BMP, ephrin). This led to the development of a groundbreaking new ingredient, cytopurine, which works to amplify hair growth promoting signals. Lion's research findings became the topic of wide discussion at the 26th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Biomedical Gerontology. (2) Success in providing consumers with a product The speed with which Mouhatsuryoku Innovate was developed and put out on the market Amidst tremendous anticipation for a new hair nourishing treatment that would make use of technology based on the new research findings, Lion received numerous requests that a product be put out on the market as soon as possible. According to Lion's Consumer Service Office, requests came not only from within Japan but also from various other countries around the world, including the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. The large number of requests led Lion to accelerate its development of a product based on this DNA-level research. The result was Mouhatsuryoku Innovate, a revolutionary new product formulated from two active ingredients: glyceryl pentadecanoate, which delivers energy and nutrients essential for hair growth and is already utilized in other Lion hair-nourishing treatments; and a new ingredient cytopurine, which works to increase the presence of hair-growth promoting signals. (3) The product's name and design Use of name and packaging design that clearly convey the function of the product Lion chose the word "Innovate" for the name of this product to emphasize that it is an "innovative" new treatment, developed based on the latest research into hair-growth mechanisms. The packaging design is also highly original, using bright red and "champagne silver" (the first time such a combination has been used for a hair nourishing treatment product) to convey a sense of the product's immediate effectiveness, and its superior quality. (4) Effectiveness of extensive use of TV commercials Getting information to customers quickly through extensive use of TV commercials The TV commercials for Mouhatsuryoku Innovate feature music with a brisk tempo and lively images, which work to convey the idea of the high level of effectiveness that customers can expect from this hair-nourishing treatment. Extensive use of TV commercials enabled Lion to get information to the customer about the product as soon as it went on the market. (5) Reaction from customers The product gained wide attention after it was launched, with 1,500 inquiries from customers Once the announcement was made of the discovery of the new mechanisms behind hair growth, and as of one month after the launch of the product, Lion has been inundated with as many as 1,500 customer inquiries. Before Mouhatsuryoku Innovate became available in stores, customers were contacting Lion to ask that a product be put out as soon as possible. Once the product became available, inquiries focused on details of how the product worked and its effects, and also for information on where it could be purchased, as well as on how it felt when used. The rise in the sales figures of Mouhatsuryoku Innovate looks set to continue, with a corresponding invigoration and expansion of the hair nourishing treatment market. The effects of hair-nourishing treatment are best demonstrated with continued use. Lion intends to continue to keep its customers informed of the very latest details of the product through TV commercials and advertisement campaigns, as well as through its Web site. "Over one month on innovate"
"Over one month on innovate"
Age 33, around NW 1.5 - 2, I would guess. Current regime: Dutasteride 0.5mg/ day since 7 Dec 2002, Innovate once a day directly after washing and towel drying hair(2-2.5ml) Overall, my hair is looking much better since adding the innovate - admittedly, the Dut over the past year has had a better effect than Finasteride/ Propecia did at improving existing strength and thickness, but the innovate seems to have added a more youthful look, which I haven't seen for a good few years. Maybe the two products are having/ will have a synergistic effect? The main problem with my hairloss has always been the frontal region, and there has definitely been a small amount of mature hairs appearing in previously slick bald areas in front of my hairline, mainly on the left side (probably 20-30 hairs growing at about an inch, I would guess). I am hoping that the innovate will help boost growth further over the next 6 months. The Dutasteride certainly seems to have halted hairloss for me, but then again so did Finasteride. Now a lot of the DHT has been taken care of, I just need a product that will cause moderate regrowth and I will be happy. Let's hope that innovate has enough science behind it to unlock the more genetic causes of loss. Cheers Bookie

Innovate is WORKING" I have been on innovate for almost 2 months now and I have been through the shed like everyone else, but now my hair is growing. Before innovate u could see my scalp through my hair at the front but now u carnt. Also i was receeding about 2 inches from my normal hairline but now it is filling out with lots of black hair which started out white. Inbetween the new black hair are lots of white hairs so there is a lot more to come. I have also noticed that when hair has shed progressively the bulbs are seeming to be bigger and bigger where as before this the where very small. My hair is sitting up right and feels a lot stronger. Before I started the innovate my hair was becoming limp. Regarding the shedding the worst of it has stopped but shed still continues at a small amount but it seems that the hairloss may be normal as my hair growth is accelerated and beting the shed to make my hair thicker. I did not want to post this for a couple of days because I wanted to be sure I was not just having a one off good hair day. Something you might be interested to know is that I have been suffering itchiness also and wondered if it was due to the inflamation but in the last four days it has vertually stopped. I wonder if the itchiness may also be attributed to new hair growth trying to break through, or the innovate has solved one of the problems that triggered the inflamation. During the two months of using innovate I have not used any DHT blockers and wonder if I am getting quicker results because DHT with innovatemight be a good thing. All I have used with innovate is Minoxidil 0.5% in between applying Lion corps innovate twice daily.

Thnx Raymond!
